• I loved this course, enough to have listened to it almost three times now. It’s incredibly thorough and actually pretty entertaining, covering literally every major language family along with the differences between “language” and “dialect,” pidgin and creole, ways to tell how old or isolated a language is, and tons of other fascinating topics. Bonus for the (loving, but well-deserved) effort to prove Proto-Indo-European isn’t magically more special than any of the other proto-languages.
  
  The only reason I took off a star is that for whatever awful reason, the course is very neatly and reasonably divided into single lectures for the first third... and then the rest of it is one massive 10-hour chunk. , get it together! It makes it hard to go back for specific topics.
